Description
PVC coated tarpaulin is the most commonly used material in flexible fabric structures. It is composed of polyester scrim material, adhesive or adhesive, and external PVC coating. The scrim supports the coating (initially applied as a liquid) and provides the tensile strength, elongation, tear strength, and dimensional stability of the resulting fabric. The tensile strength of the base fabric is determined by the size (denier) and strength (tenacity) of the yarn and the number of yarns per linear inch or meter. The larger the yarn and the more yarn per inch, the greater the tensile strength of the finished product. The binder acts as a chemical bond between the polyester fiber and the outer coating, and can also prevent fiber wicking or absorption of water during a process that may cause freeze-thaw damage to the fabric.
